CALIFORNIA, MO — With Missouri’s municipal elections fast approaching, Secretary of State Denny Hoskins, CPA, is traveling across the state to meet with county clerks and election officials, ensuring a smooth and transparent election process.
- In Moniteau County, Hoskins met with County Clerk Roberta Elliot in California. Moniteau County stands out for its election transparency, displaying all 18 unique ballots for the April election outside the county office—a practice that showcases the county’s commitment to compliance, voter awareness, and accessibility.
- Hoskins then stopped in Cooper County, where he connected with County Clerk Jerrid Richards in Boonville. Both Boonville and Fayette were part of Hoskins’ former state senate district, making this visit a homecoming of sorts as he discussed election readiness and local voter engagement efforts.
- In Howard County, Hoskins toured the historic Howard County Courthouse in Fayette, where he met with County Clerk Shelly Howell. Howard County, known as the “Mother of All Counties,” boasts a rich history documented in local papers and murals that tell the story of its significance in Missouri’s development.
- The tour continued in Boone County, where Hoskins visited with County Clerk Brianna Lennon, and in Callaway County, where he met with County Clerk Ronda Miller. Callaway County, which once held first-class county status before shifting back to second-class, currently has only 11 polling places open for the April election—down from the usual 19. In a recent election, one polling location saw just a single voter all day, highlighting shifting voter patterns and participation rates.
During his visit in Callaway County, Hoskins also joined the “Office Hours” call with Missouri Secretary of State’s Office Director of Election Integrity Nick LaStrada and county clerks from across the state, discussing election updates, best practices, and ways to ensure every Missouri voter has the opportunity to cast their ballot securely and efficiently. The “Office Hours” call is a regularly scheduled all-call for local election authorities, boards of elections, and the SOS Elections Division.
As the municipal elections approach, Hoskins’ statewide tour reinforces his commitment to election integrity, accessibility, and supporting the dedicated local officials who make democracy happen in Missouri’s counties.
Municipal elections are Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
