A naturalized American citizen wrongfully detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is speaking out — not in anger — but in support of the very agency that mistakenly handcuffed him. Hugo Monteiro, a 31-year-old naturalized citizen from Brazil, was leaving the Cambridge District Court in Medford, Massachusetts, Friday morning when four plainclothes ICE agents suddenly descended on him. Monteiro, who became a U.S. citizen in 2020, was simply accompanying a client to a court hearing when the officers, allegedly acting on mistaken identity, placed him in handcuffs and loaded him into a government vehicle, Boston 25 News reported. “They were threatening me.
