In April, the Trump administration froze over $2.2 billion in federal research grants and $60 million in contracts to Harvard, citing the university’s failure to adequately address antisemitism on campus. In May, the administration ordered federal agencies to cancel an estimated $100 million in remaining contracts with Harvard across nine departments. The administration is also looking to revoke Harvard’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification, which would prevent the university from enrolling international students—about 6,800 students, or over a quarter of its student body.
