The mainstream media portrayed the ICE raid as either inhumane or a mistake, or both. However, the reality is that López Alvarado was arrested for attempting to prevent ICE officers from arresting her undocumented husband. She was held temporarily and then released with no charges filed. The takeaway most people received from the headlines and superficial news coverage was that ICE had accidentally or maliciously arrested an American citizen and held her for hours.
