The ‘Late Show’ with Stephen Colbert failed for two simple reasons. First, Colbert used the show as nothing more than a vehicle for his own personal and pathological hatred of Trump. This caused lots of people to stop watching and in turn, advertisers began pulling away from the show. As a result, the show started bleeding money for CBS, to the tune of $40 million a year. In other words, this was not about politics, just simple math. If CBS reduced Colbert’s salary from $20m to $0, the show would still be losing $20m per year.
