Chicago public schools are coming under fire (again) because school officials allegedly spent millions in Covid funds on luxury travel and other things completely unrelated to the school system. Aside from the obvious theft, people are especially angry because less than a third of students in these schools can read at grade level. This is why people tend to ignore the left’s outrage about ideas like getting rid of the Department of Education. It’s also a reminder of why so many people want school choice, so that they can opt their kids out of failing public schools.
