The SAVE Act passed the House in April by a narrow margin of 216–208, with Republicans unified in support and only four Democrats — Reps. Ed Case (HI), Henry Cuellar (TX), Jared Golden (ME), and Marie Perez (WA). The legislation, championed by Republicans, would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register and vote in federal elections.
