Thomas Edwin Harmon, 93, of Richmond, passed away Friday, August 7, 2026, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.Thomas was born on November 2, 1932, in Montgomery County, KS, the son of Clarence and Juanita Mae (Holderby) Harmon. He was united in marriage to Martha Jane Hodson of Richmond on October 3, 1953; she preceded him in death on March 13, 2023.Survivors include: three daughters: Jane Luper of Lawrence, KS, Beth Harmon of Richmond, MO, and Mary Wedgeworth of Rogers, AR; seven grandchildren: Rebekah Luper (Evan Rees), Rachael (David) Wahl, Nathanael (Alisha) Luper, Benjamin (Melanie) Luper, Anna Luper, Neann Wedgeworth, and Thomas Wedgeworth; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth (Jane) Harmon of Columbia, MO, and Emery (Jerri) Harmon of Centerton, AR; sister, Eilene Brashears of Lexington, MO; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews also survive.In addition to his parents and wife, Thomas was preceded in death by three brothers, James Harmon, John Harmon, and Gilbert Harmon, and sister, Mary Cole.Thomas was raised and educated in Richmond, graduating from Richmond High School with the Class of 1950. A gifted athlete, he excelled on the football field and continued both his education and football career at William Jewell College in Liberty. His college years were interrupted when he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. Thomas proudly served his country as a medic before returning home to begin a lifelong career in the construction industry.Through years of hard work, dedication, and craftsmanship, Thomas worked his way from carpenter to superintendent, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him. He was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local #1904, where he also served on the District Council, advocating for his fellow tradesmen. Committed to serving his hometown in more ways than one, Thomas faithfully served on the Richmond Police Board for 30 years and was a dedicated member of the American Legion for 36 years. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a member of First Baptist Church of Richmond.Thomas was happiest when he was outdoors. Whether he was casting a fishing line, hunting, tending his garden, or working with his hands in the woodshop, he found great satisfaction in nature and in creating something that would last. He was a hardworking man who believed in doing things the right way, quietly serving his family, his community, and his country with integrity. He will be remembered for his steady presence, strong work ethic, generous heart, and the example he set for those who knew and loved him.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Shirkey Hospice or the Missouri Conservation Commission.
