Thomas D. Maberry peacefully joined his family in Heaven on Sunday, August 2, 2026. He was 89 years young.
Tom was born the son of James and Reva (Perry) Maberry on January 20, 1937 in Blue Mound, Missouri.
He graduated from Tina-Avalon where he played basketball and softball. It was at Tina-Avalon where met his beloved wife, Carolyn Jo Ross. They were married when he returned home from serving in the United States Navy.
Tom was an auto parts manager his entire working career. He loved to work with wood; creating clocks, sconces, cabinets, tables, etc. He was deeply involved with his grandson, Cole, assisting with the marching band by cooking meals when they went to competitions. He also enjoyed gardening and his tomatoes were enjoyed by many.
People were always drawn to Tom, as he always had a kind word for everyone. His family knew him as a quiet, patient and loving man; one who overcame a broken neck, heart failure and esophageal cancer. He kept his smile and good humor throughout it all and died peacefully, at home, cancer free with his loved ones around him.
Tom is survived by his two daughters, Ellen Christine (Christy) Maberry and Tamara Jo (Tammy Maberry) Shinn; his grandson, Coleman R. Shinn; sister-in-law, Dottie Maberry; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and their
children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn; his parents, James and Reva (Perry) Maberry; older brothers, Bill Maberry and wife, Carolyn, Dick Maberry and wife, Carol, Bob Maberry and
first wife, Glendoris; one sister, June (Maberry) Lazure and husband, Bob; and two nephews, Steven Maberry and Mike Maberry.
Graveside services will be held at Avalon Cemetery, Avalon, Missouri, on Friday, August 7, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Avalon Cemetery Association and/or Blue Mound Cemetery Association and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home.
