Districts across Chariton County have been sharing news with families as students prepare to return to the classroom.

Northwestern R-I

At Northwestern R-I, the district celebrated graduate Taylor Fry, a member of the Class of 2024, who completed basic training in San Antonio, Texas. Fry graduated with honors and is now serving as an Airman in the U.S. Air Force. The school also expressed gratitude to the Northwestern Booster Club for purchasing pencils, Expo markers, Kleenex, and Clorox wipes for every classroom, a gift that teachers noted was both practical and much appreciated. Several new staff members have joined the district this year, including Tricia Gladbach as administrative assistant and bookkeeper, Ronda Wright as head cook, and Kristen Miller as assistant cook. New instructional staff include Kimberly Douglas in fourth grade, Blake Leasure in junior high and high school science, Audrey Young in speech, and Missy Adams as a paraprofessional. Families also attended a supply drop-off and meal night on August 14, and the district has announced that online registration is open through TeacherEase. The school’s phone number has been updated to 660-675-0101.

Keytesville R-III

In Keytesville, the district highlighted the support of community members who provided both breakfast and lunch for teachers and staff in recent days. Families turned out for the annual open house, where they enjoyed a meal and met with teachers ahead of the first day of classes on Tuesday, August 19. Preparations for fall sports are also underway, with Coach Foland seeking volunteers to help at home football games. The district is especially in need of chain crew members and someone to announce varsity games, with stipends available for those roles. Parents and guardians are also reminded to submit Free and Reduced Lunch Applications when completing online registration.

Brunswick R-II

At Brunswick R-II, students have already been active on campus with the start of band camp, which will continue as they prepare for performances in the weeks ahead. The district also released details for vo-tech students, who will report to Brunswick High School on August 20 and begin classes at Carrollton Career Center on August 21. School picture day has been scheduled for Thursday, August 28. Superintendent Mrs. E hosted her monthly coffee group, giving community members a tour of the building and an update on new developments. Meanwhile, six Brunswick FFA members represented the district at Food Insecurity Day during the Missouri State Fair, serving donuts at the Missouri Soybean booth. On the athletic side, junior high softball will now host Tina-Avalon/Southwest on September 9, while two varsity games—including the September 23 matchup with Prairie Home—have been canceled.

Salisbury R-IV

In Salisbury, junior high softball practice is set to begin Monday, August 18, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at Potts Park, with a short parent and coaches’ meeting following practice. Earlier in the month, the district held its annual A+ Program camp on August 11 and 12, with high school students assisting younger participants in preparing for the school year.
