Citizens from Spain’s Canary Islands out in force against over-tourism. The issue of over-tourism is one that is plaguing communities all over Europe and around the world. In balancing the need of income from tourism with maintaining the quality of life of the local populations, the business logic is always privileged, to the detriment of the people who live in these tourist hotspots. In the Spanish Canary Islands, thousands of anti-tourism protesters have taken to the streets en masse. Daily Mail reported: “Scores of fed-up locals kicked off demonstrations across the archipelago from 11am, including in Tenerife, where thousands of Brits are currently holidaying.
