In Germany, the Bundestag’s police commissioner, Uli Grötsch, is pushing hard to boot out all members of the conservative Alternative for Germany (AfD) party from the police force. As a member of the left-leaning Social Democratic Party (SPD), Grötsch holds a position designed to oversee police misconduct, but now he’s using his position to target supporters of the AfD to disqualify them from serving in law enforcement. Speaking to the Rheinische Post, he expatiated that “AfD membership and work as a police officer are not compatible,” pointing to the party’s label as “right-wing extremist” by Germany’s intelligence agency, the BfV.
