Attorney General Ken Paxton has stated that he will “hopefully” put the Democrat lawmakers who fled the state to avoid redistricting in jail. Dozens of liberal lawmakers have left the state in an attempt to sabotage a legitimate Republican effort to redraw congressional districts ahead of the 2026 midterms. By leaving the state, the lawmakers can hold up a special legislative session to redraw districts. During an appearance on Fox & Friends First on Friday, Paxton outlined the situation, stating that the lawmakers have a specified deadline to get back to work that day.
