Video screenshot On Friday, President Donald Trump signed his 200th Executive Order officially restoring the name “Department of War” from the Department of Defense. Created in 1789, the Department of War was renamed and reorganized in 1947 by President Harry Truman. The Department of Defense incorporated the Department of War, the Army, the Department of the Navy and the newly created Air Force. President Trump noted the prior name was “woke.” “It’s a much more appropriate name, especially in light of where the world is right now,” Trump said.
