In early September, The Gateway Pundit reported that Senate Majority Leader John Thune signaled potentially using the ‘nuclear option’ to break Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer’s block on President Trump’s judicial nominees. Thursday’s vote came following Senate Republicans’ vote to cut the confirmation threshold from 60 to a simple majority to expedite the confirmation of non-cabinet and non-judicial nominees as a group and allow Senate Republicans to move multiple nominees with a simple majority vote.
