On October 1 at 12:01 am, the government partially shut down because two measures failed in the Senate. The measures to reopen the government failed again on Wednesday morning. The House passed a clean, short-term stopgap funding bill to keep the government open. Schumer rejected it. Instead of working with Republicans to responsibly extend funding until November, Schumer chose a shutdown.
