The US Senate on Sunday evening voted to break the filibuster, paving the way to reopen the government. After 40 days of a government shutdown, eight Senate Democrats caved and joined the Republicans to advance legislation to reopen the government. The House will return to session on Wednesday to vote on the Senate-passed funding package. Senator Cornyn arrived shortly after 10:45 pm to cast the final vote. The Motion to Invoke Cloture on the House-passed continuing resolution was passed on the 15th attempt by a vote of 60-40. Republicans plan to amend the bill and attach three full-year-long appropriations bills.
