Forty-three days into the government shutdown, panic set in as certain subsidies began to dry up. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) garnered the most attention, especially among Democrats, under the rally cry of ’42 million people being denied their SNAP benefits!’ Posts went viral of people claiming to resort to violence and chaos if the program closes during the shutdown.
