The Senate failed to advance a Republican healthcare plan in a 51-48 vote on Thursday. GOP Senator Rand Paul voted with the Democrats. Senators Bill Cassidy (LA) and Mike Crapo (ID) introduced the bill that would allow Obamacare tax subsidies to expire and expand health savings accounts. The legislation needed 60 votes to advance. A separate, Schumer-backed healthcare bill also failed to pass the Senate on Thursday. Obamacare’s enhanced premium tax credit will expire at the end of 2025.
