Trump adviser Peter Navarro takes the stage at the 2024 Republican National Convention. The Republican National Committee (RNC) has broken with precedent by voting to hold a convention during the 2026 midterm cycle. Members of the committee voted to approve the rule change on Friday, paving the way for the convention to take place later this year. Bill O’Brien, the national committeeman from New Hampshire, said the vote allows them to “conduct a special ceremonial convention between presidential conventions, such as a midterm convention. “President Trump has expressed interest in holding that convention,” he added.
