Elio Engel, the former Democrat Congressman who spearheaded the first Trump impeachment has passed away. He was 79 years old. Engel served in Congress from 1989 to 2021. He was the chair the Foreign Affairs Committee during Trump’s first impeachment and led the investigation into whether Trump withheld aid from Ukraine. Engel harassed and subpoenaed then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during the Ukraine impeachment coup. The former lawmakers also delivered numerous speeches on the House floor trashing President Trump and defending the impeachment. In February 2020, the senate acquitted President Trump on both articles of impeachment.
