Marolyn Virginia Guilford, age 87, a resident of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton, Missouri.
Marolyn was born the daughter of Ora Alfred and Wilma Gertrude (Loper) Rounkles on March 4, 1938, in Coloma, Missouri. She was a 1956 graduate of Tina High School. Marolyn was united in marriage to Fred Graham Alter on June 16, 1956, at East Grace Church, Hale, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1984. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hale, Missouri. Marolyn was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Mendon Chapter 351, the Leaton Homemakers Club, Royal Neighbors, and served as a 4-H leader and project coordinator for the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club for over 20 years. She loved flowers, especially iris and lilies, and had many flower gardens. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and farm to table cooking.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Johnson (Tammy) of Carrollton, Missouri, and Jimmy Alter (Shirley) of Pomona, Missouri; three daughters, Karen Pogge of Lawrence, Kansas, Ann (Alter) Benson (James) of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Linda Kay (Alter) Sweetgal (Paul) of Canyon, Texas; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Rounkles and John Rounkles both of Tina, Missouri; one sister, Georgia Koster of Wentzville, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Graham Alter; granddaughter, Susan Pogge; and two brothers, Gary Alfred and Jim Irvin Rounkles.
Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Missouri, on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Missouri, on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Private family burial will be held at Braden Cemetery, Coloma, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Braden Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
