Doris Jane Lewis, age 90, a resident of Ludlow, Missouri, peacefully passed away Friday, September 12, 2025 at Golden Age Nursing Home, Braymer, Missouri, surrounded by her family.
Doris was born the daughter of Roy and Alice (Byrd) Shields on September 1, 1935 in rural Livingston County, Missouri. She was a 1953 graduate of Chillicothe High School. Post graduation, Doris attended and graduated from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Missouri, with a degree in Education. On February 22, 1957, she married John G. Lewis at the Ludlow Methodist Church, Ludlow, Missouri. They enjoyed 68 and 1/2 years of marriage. He survives of the home.
Doris was a member of the Ludlow Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Ladies Aid, Colonial Dames and MSTA. She was an accomplished seamstress as she made all the girls’ clothes early on. She loved her gardens, both the vegetable and the flower types. Fishing was also one of her favorite past times.
Survivors include her husband, John, of the home; three daughters, Shelly Martin of Savannah, Missouri, Annette Lowrey of Gallatin, Missouri, and Natalie Young and her husband, Jerry, of Bosworth, Missouri; one son-in-law, Randy Rasche of Chillicothe, Missouri; a brother, Dale Shields and wife, Cathy, of Littleton, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Aaron Martin (Sarah Sherlock) of St. Joseph, Missouri, Jackie Souders and husband, Daniel, of Gallatin, Missouri, Lindsey Lowrey of Gallatin, Missouri, Jared Young and wife, Miranda, of Kirksville, Missouri, Andie Burnidge and husband, Luke, of North Kansas City, Missouri, Riley Rasche (Hayden Glaubius) of Columbia, Missouri, and Isaak Rasche of Chillicothe, Missouri; and 10 great grandchildren, Harlan, Hazel, Harrison, Kasen, Haylee, Alli, Cameron, Alice, Eleanor, and Peyton. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Terri Rasche, a son-in -law, John Martin and a sister, Sue Jones.
A graveside service will be held at Christison Cemetery, Dawn, Missouri, on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital, and /or the Ludlow Methodist Church and/or the Christison Cemetery and may be mailed to or left at Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601.
