Shirley Ruth (Hamilton) Owen, 81 of Mayview, Missouri passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 8th, 2026, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 20109 Bus, MO-13, Higginsville, MO, 64037. Shirley was born on July 2, 1944, in Vernon, Texas to Ocie Guy and Wilhemina Catherine (Gaebler) Hamilton. She graduated from Lockett High School in Lockett, TX. On May 28, 1966, Shirley was united in marriage to Gary Thomas Owen in Lexington, MO. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2013. Shirley was mainly a homemaker who took care of her family. She was a member of multiple horse clubs throughout her life. In addition to spending time with her family and friends, Shirley enjoyed working with horses, raising dogs, leatherwork, and participating in living history reenactments.
Shirley is survived by three children, Davin Eugene Owen of Mayview, MO, Todd “Skip” Benjamin Owen and wife Kelly of Sweet Springs, MO, Colt Jacob Owen and significant other, Jeffrey Golson of Ranchester, Wyoming, and an adopted like son, Larry “Son” Ownby, of Sweet Springs, MO; two grandchildren, Karrington Owen and fiancé Caleb Drake and Isaac Owen; one brother, Ocie “Cork” Hamilton and wife Vera of Vernon, TX; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by four brothers, Louis Hamilton, Guy Hamilton, John Hamilton, and Thomas Hamilton.
