Dr. Marvin E. “Pete” Ross, 86 of Carrollton, Missouri passed away at home on March 12, 2026. Dr. Ross was born on October 28, 1939 in Du Quoin IL. He was the son of William Clinton and Wilma Lucille Ross and brother to George Clinton Ross. He was preceded in death by all three.
Pete grew up in Benton, Illinois. He graduated from Benton Community Consolidated Schools. He then attended Vanderbilt University on a football scholarship but transferred to Austin Peay after a football injury ended his football career. His original intention after college was to attend medical school at Vanderbilt University, but those plans changed after graduation when he stopped for a glass of water. This glass of water reconnected him with the love of his life Linda Van Leer. They had met in third grade. They married shortly after that glass of water on December 24, 1961.
Pete made the decision to go to pharmacy school in St. Louis. After graduation, he joined his father as a pharmacist and helped run multiple drugstores they owned in southern Illinois. Eldest daughter Petrie Flick was born in 1965 followed by daughter Kelly in 1968. Despite being in the family business, he never gave up the dream of medical school. He decided to pursue this dream with the encouragement of wife Linda. In 1972 they moved to Kansas City where he started medical school at the University of Health Science College of Osteopathic Medicine. He graduated from medical school in 1976 and moved to Carrollton, Missouri, where he practiced as a general practitioner for 45 years, retiring in 2021.
Being a doctor was one of his greatest joys. He loved his patients. When he first moved to Carrollton, he bought a snowmobile so he could make winter house calls to those out in the country. He also delivered babies until his daughter, Kelly got involved in sports and he didn’t want to miss any games.
He was a dedicated doctor, family man and friend to many. He loved watching his grandson’s participation in sports and never missed a game. His grandsons Ryan, Spencer and Ross were his pride and joy. His other greatest love was his wife Linda. He loved spending his time when he was not doctoring, just enjoying her company. She was his best friend. Very rarely did you see them apart. They were the definition of a beautiful love story. Heaven has definitely received another angel.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Linda Ross, his daughters Petrie and Kelly (Lisa), grandsons; Mikel Ryan Flick, Spencer Flick (Mallory) and Ross Flick his great-grandchildren; Remi, Ryatt, Rhett, Jensen, Brooklyn and Miya
Donations in his memory can be made to the Methodist Church in Carrollton and Shirkey’s Hospice. Arrangements entrusted to Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Carrollton, www.hiddenvalleyfunerals.com
