Missouri’s abortion debate has entered a dangerous new chapter. With Amendment 3 looming on the November ballot, the legislature had an opportunity this year to secure equal protection for unborn children once and for all. Instead, they chose political compromise — and in doing so, abandoned both their moral duty before God and the very principles they claim to defend.

The Foundation to Abolish Abortion (FAA) exists for one simple, unwavering purpose: to see abortion abolished in every state, with no exceptions and no delays. Their mission is rooted in the conviction that God commands civil authorities to uphold justice without partiality — not to regulate the killing of the innocent, but to end it completely.

As FAA’s vision makes clear, true justice for the preborn means they receive the same protection as every other human being, “from the moment of fertilization until natural death,” without exception or compromise. Yet in Missouri, too many so-called pro-life legislators are choosing the path of least political resistance.

The Problem with Incrementalism

For decades, the pro-life movement has been dominated by incremental strategies — passing laws that regulate abortion rather than abolish it. Some lawmakers argue this is the only realistic way to save lives in the short term.

“While many of these Republican lawmakers and Pro-Life lobbyists may think they are employing prudential strategy in crafting a ballot measure they believe will pass, in the hope of mitigating the evil of Amendment 3, they are violating commands from God to exercise judgment without partiality.”

Scripture is clear that justice must be impartial:

“You shall not pervert justice; you shall not show partiality, nor take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous.” — Deuteronomy 16:19, NKJV

When we write laws that allow some to live while others may be killed, we are showing partiality — and violating God’s standard.

A Duty Abdicated

Earlier this year, the Missouri legislature had a clear opportunity to pass an abolition bill that would have defied Amendment 3 by recognizing the personhood of the preborn and extending to them the full protection of the law.

“Missouri lawmakers could have passed legislation to defy Amendment 3 during the 2025 legislative session. They could have established equal protection of the laws for preborn babies. Instead they voted down that legislation and abdicated their duty before God to abolish abortion. They washed their hands and shifted their responsibility to the voters to decide whether or not babies may be legally slaughtered in Missouri.”

This is not a tactical disagreement. It’s a moral collapse — and God’s Word warns of the guilt this brings:

“Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.” — Proverbs 24:11, NKJV

The Biblical Standard

The Declaration of Independence declares that all human beings are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” These rights do not come from government — they are given by God.

If that’s true, then unborn children are entitled to them every bit as much as you and I. Civil authorities have no legitimate power to withhold those rights from any group, no matter how politically unpopular their protection may be.

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” — Genesis 1:27, NKJV

“You shall not murder.” — Exodus 20:13, NKJV

Partial protections for the unborn do not satisfy this command — they violate it.

The Political Fear Factor

Why won’t legislators act? Some fear losing their seats. Some fear the wrath of the courts. Others fear backlash from well-funded pro-life organizations that prefer the incremental approach.

But fear is no excuse for abandoning justice:

“The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.” — Proverbs 29:25, NKJV

Missouri’s leaders swore an oath to uphold both the Constitution and the God-given rights it recognizes. That oath does not allow for calculated half-measures when human lives are on the line.

It is time for Missourians to demand more than “pro-life” talking points and token regulations. We must insist on equal protection for every human being from conception onward — not years from now, not when it’s politically convenient, but now.
