Brunswick, MO – On Thursday, October 23, 2025, Chariton County deputies were dispatched to North Wood Street in Brunswick following a report of a fire hydrant being struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies met with a Missouri Rural Water employee who was on scene shutting off the water supply. The employee advised that a black or gray Ford Ranger had struck the hydrant and fled the scene without stopping.
Suspect Vehicle Located With Damage
Deputies began checking the surrounding area and soon located a gray Ford Ranger with significant front-end damage traveling westbound on 4th Street. As the vehicle turned north onto Madison Street, it nearly struck a patrol vehicle. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield and accelerated rapidly, initiating a pursuit.
Pursuit Spans Multiple Streets
The suspect vehicle continued west onto 5th Street, then north onto Harring Street, striking a mailbox before proceeding northbound. The pursuit extended onto Steamboat Avenue, where the vehicle reached speeds of approximately 80 miles per hour. Deputies terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns caused by dust from the gravel roadways.
Vehicle Crashes Near Pond Dam
Shortly after the pursuit was ended, dispatch reported a vehicle matching the suspect description traveling north on Fort Orleans Avenue. The vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, entered a ditch, overcorrected, and continued east off the roadway onto a pond dam. Deputies responded and located debris consistent with a Ford Ranger, including a black tonneau cover believed to have come from the suspect vehicle.
Suspect Identified and Taken Into Custody
Using evidence collected at the scene and prior knowledge, deputies identified the driver as Cole Green. Deputies responded to Green’s residence, where they located a black Ford Ranger showing damage consistent with the incidents. Green was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Randolph County Jail.
