Willene Clastine Bratton, 86, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at her home.
Willene was born on November 21, 1939, in Hardin, the daughter of Willis Louis and Ida Mae (Bell) Walker. She was united in marriage to Floyd Dale Bratton, Sr., of Knob Noster on October 16, 1959; he preceded her in death on January 13, 2021.
Willene was raised and educated in the area of her birth. She began her schooling in Lexington and, after schools were integrated, continued her education in Richmond, where she graduated from high school.
Willene was a proud and devoted homemaker, and while she worked outside the home at Lake City Arsenal, Job Corps, and Price Candy, her heart was always centered on her family. She was the true matriarch of her home-the one everyone looked to for guidance, comfort, and unconditional love. She carried herself with quiet strength, grace, and a deep sense of responsibility to those she loved.
Her kitchen was the heart of her home, and she made sure no one ever left hungry. Willene was well known for her cooking, especially her homemade bread, peach cobbler, and cinnamon rolls-dishes that brought family, friends, and neighbors together. Whether it was Sunday dinner or a special gathering, she found joy in feeding others and spending time with her loved ones. She truly believed in keeping family close, and the more that gathered, the happier she was.
Willene was also her family’s biggest cheerleader. She loved sports and faithfully supported her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all their activities, always showing up, encouraging them, and celebrating their accomplishments with pride.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. Willene was a dedicated and active member of St. John’s CME Church in Richmond, where she lifted her voice in the choir and faithfully served on the kitchen committee. She loved the Lord and lived her faith daily, showing kindness, generosity, and compassion to everyone she met.
Survivors include: son, Patrick S. (Amy) Bratton of Richmond; three daughters: Stephanie (David) Isom of Liberty, Jacqueline Bratton of Richmond, and Mimi Danner of Richmond; five grandchildren: Marcus Reed, Edward Danner, Jr., Amber (Josh) Gooding, Mariel Danner, and Jessica (Dalton) Minor; and eight great-grandchildren: Micaiah Reed, Reese Johnson, Ryland Johnson, Beau Minor, Mirylah Reed, Bray Minor, Evy Minor, and Makarri Reed.
In addition to her parents and husband, Willene was preceded in death by her son, Floyd Bratton, Jr., two brothers, Howard Walker, Sr., and Willis Walker, Jr., and four sisters, Evelyn Rowland, Shirley Anderson, Eula Nicholas, and JoAnne Walker.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the either the National Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Visitation with funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at St. John’s CME Church in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M., with services to follow at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M. in Knob Noster Cemetery. Please remember to share your memories of Willene with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
