A. Doris Shaw, age 88, a resident of Trenton, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, at her home. Doris was born the daughter of Cortland and Leta (Powell) VanArsdale, on July 9, 1937, in Texas. She was a graduate of the Kansas School of the Blind in 1959. She attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. She met the love of her life, Bart Shaw, on New Year’s Eve and was wed on April 9, 1960 in Gladstone, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2021.
Doris was a military wife for the first 15 years of marriage, while Bart served in the Navy until he retired in 1975. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association and a member of the Military Order of Cooties (MOC).
Doris is survived by one son, Gerald Shaw of Trenton, Missouri; two daughters, D.J. Hopkins and husband, Darrell of Trenton, Missouri, and Teresa Stephenson of Trenton, Missouri; ten grandchildren; and twenty-four great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bart; one grandson, Trey Shaw; one sister, Gwen Hunsicker; and one brother, Harvey VanArsdale.
Schedule of Services: A memorial service by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, 910 Washington Street, Chillicothe, Missouri. Visitation will immediately follow until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Galt Christian Church, Galt, Missouri on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. A light dinner hosted by the church will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service, all are welcome to attend. The register book will be available for signing at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. An inurnment ceremony will be held at Coon Creek Cemetery, Trenton, Missouri, upon receipt of cremation ashes. Memorial contributions may be made to the Galt Christian Church and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri.
