Mary Ellen Fiegenbaum-Thomson, 93, of Higginsville, died October 8, 2025 at Meyer Care Center.
She was born March 28, 1932, at home in rural Mayview, to Sylvan and Mary Esther (Matthews) Schmutz.
Mary Ellen grew up in Mayview and graduated from high school there. She worked, for a short time, at the Odessa CO-OP. She married Henry Fiegenbaum on March 27, 1951. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1990. Mary Ellen was a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker. After the children were grown, she worked at Wal-Mart as the head of the fabric department. It was a job that she loved and was very proud of. Her knowledge and skill as a seamstress were a natural fit.
She and Roger Thomson were married on September 4, 2004. They moved to Higginsville soon after. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2022.
Mary Ellen was a faithful member of Zion United Church of Christ in Mayview her entire life. She was a Sunday school teacher and shared her talent of playing the piano.
In addition to her husbands, she is preceded in death by a sister, Lois Chambon-Dial.
She is survived by:

Daughters: Joyce Hoefer (Wayne) of Mayview
Sharon (Thomson) Stock of Jefferson City, MO
Brothers: George Schmutz (Judy) of Warsaw
Norman Schmutz of Mayview
Sister: Martha Hawthorne (Ronald) of Mayview

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, October 15th at 11:00 am at Zion United Church of Christ in Mayview, officiated by Pastor John Chaplin.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral.
She will be buried in the Zion UCC Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Foundation Fighting Blindness, Children’s Mercy Hospital or American Cancer Society.
