Jay Howard Jones, age 73, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home with his
wife, Wendy, by his side, on Friday, November 7, 2025.
Jay was born the son of William T. and Frances Lea (Barnhart) Jones on March 9, 1952, in Chillicothe,
Missouri. On October 19, 2024, Jay was united in marriage to Wendy Huggan, in Chillicothe, Missouri.
She survives of the home.
Jay retired from Union #663 as a Union heavy highway laborer. He was a member of the Fraternal Order
of Eagles Aerie No. 2428 in Chillicothe, Missouri. Jay enjoyed working with his hands and listening to
music. He loved to spend time with friends and family. Jay had some of the truest friends a man could
wish for, and you all know who you are.
Jay is survived by his wife, Wendy; one son, Jayson Jones of Kansas City, Missouri: one daughter,
Melissa Atkinson of Kansas City, Missouri, step-son, Alex Abbot (Candace) of Canada; eight
grandchildren, Erica House, Tanner Atkinson, Rayna Jones, Savannah Jones, Libby Atkinson, Liam
House, Ellie Abbott and Hudson Abbott; one great-grandchild, Dean House; two brothers, Tim Jones
(Cindy) of Ottawa, Kansas and Billy Jones (Connie) of Chillicothe, Missouri; and mother-in-law, Hazel
Huggan of Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation was held. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Chillicothe Eagles #2428, on Saturday,
November 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. A private family Inurnment will be at Christison Cemetery, Dawn,
Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation and/or Forrest O’ Triplett
Memorial Animal Shelter and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47,
Chillicothe, Missouri 64601. Online condolences may be made at www.lindleyfuneralhomes.com.
