Roy William Overacre, 77, of Columbia, MO, passed peacefully on November 21, 2025, at the Marshall Living Center, surrounded by his loving family and devoted caregivers.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Grand Pass Cemetery. The family welcomes friends, family, and all who loved Roy to attend the celebration of life luncheon at Waverly Christian Church following the service. If the weather is bad or you prefer not to stand outside for the brief graveside service, please feel free to meet us directly at the church for the luncheon, where we will celebrate Roy with stories, food, and fellowship. The family hopes to place a memorial bench at The Living Center, where Joy still resides, so they can visit often, honor Roy’s memory, and keep his presence close. If anyone would like to donate towards the bench in Roy’s honor, please make checks payable to Jonathan Overacre. An online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com
Born August 25, 1948, in Arkansas, Roy was the son of Roy Overacre who passed before he was born, and Irene Stoeker Overacre. After the age of six, the man he called Dad, Enoch Rea, lovingly raised him with his mother, Irene. He lived a life marked by unwavering love, kindness, and an infectious spirit that brightened every room.
A proud Christian man, Roy embodied the Golden Rule, treating others as he wished to be treated. Generous and kind, he had a gift for making people feel valued. He still holds the Santa Fe High School shot put and discus records, which have been held since 1966. Roy was a letter winner at the University of Missouri (Mizzou), where he competed in track and field, and remained a devoted fan of Mizzou Athletics, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City Royals.
Roy’s greatest delight was simply being by Joy’s side-cheering on Jody and Jonathan at their sports events, attending family gatherings, and beaming with pride as Riley followed in his footsteps at Mizzou.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of over 56 years, Joy Overacre, with whom he shared a timeless love story-meeting in first grade, dating from eighth grade, and building a marriage that inspired all who knew them. Roy is also survived by his sons, Jody Overacre (wife Sandy) and Jonathan Overacre; his cherished granddaughter, Riley Overacre; and his adored grand dogs, Max Overacre (Jonathan’s) and Truman Overacre (Jody’s family).
