Beverly Jo Elson, 95, of Brookfield, MO; was welcomed to her Heavenly home on Wednesday afternoon, February 25, 2026, during a brief stay at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.
Beverly was born on August 8, 1930, to Leslie and Olive (Guest) Hubbard in Buchanan County, MO. She was a 1948 graduate of Brookfield High School and attended the General Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, MO. While at nursing school, she became engaged to Gerald Wayne Elson on February 14, 1951, and they married on June 24 of that year at the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookfield, MO. He preceded her in death on December 7, 2009.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookfield and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Beverly was a den mother for the Boy Scouts, volunteered with the Girl Scouts and was a founding member of the Linn County Recycling program.
Beverly loved her family and always put their needs first. Her happiest times were spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never missed a school event, band concert, athletic game or horse show. If she couldn’t attend a birthday or anniversary celebration, she always sent the perfect card.
She was an excellent cook with a large collection of delicious recipes. Her fried chicken was a big hit at MU football tailgates, and her homemade noodles and cinnamon rolls were the highlight of family gatherings.
Beverly was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making school clothes, sewing Barbie doll outfits, patching her sons’ jeans and making her daughter’s prom dresses.
She loved animals and the Elson household always had a small dog running around. Beverly recently befriended a feral cat who waited at her back door for food and tummy rubs. She enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and squirrels and, after getting an iPhone, she liked to share pictures of her backyard birds and critters on her Facebook page.
Beverly was loved and cherished by her surviving three children, Janie Elson and husband William Bennett of Leavenworth, KS; Greg Elson and wife Susan of Brookfield, MO; and Brian Elson and wife Melissa of Laclede, MO; six grandchildren, Michael Elson, Rachel Shipers and husband Jordan, Jeremy Elson and Lance DeGuzman, Alyssa Elson and fiancé Eric Mateo, Brandon Sportsman and wife Taryn, and Blaine Sportsman; and seven great grandchildren, Demi Shipers, Maddox Shipers, Vivienne Mateo, Sienna Mateo, Teddi Mateo, Braxxton Sportsman, Braedon Sportsman and Holden Sportsman; and one daughter-in-law, Mary Elson; and several other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, L. Stanley Hubbard; husband; and son, Jeff Elson.
Visitation and a celebration of her life will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookfield with Father Paschal Ihediohamma officiating. She will be laid to rest in Parklawn Memorial Garden Cemetery, Brookfield, MO. Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Rhodes Funeral Home, Brookfield, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Animal Shelter of Linn County, which may be left at, or mailed to, Rhodes Funeral Home, 216 Linn Street, Brookfield, MO. 64628. Online condolences may be made at www.rhodesfh.com
