Alice Dean Markes, 94, of Marshall, MO, passed away April 14, 2026, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Born in 1931 to the late Raymond North and Roseanna Haines North, Alice was a graduate of Marshall High School. She later married Albert J. Markes, also of Marshall, in December of 1953. During their 72-year marriage, Alice was a homemaker and avid gardener while Albert worked the family farm. Alice additionally worked for over 20 years as a tax preparer for H&R Block in Marshall.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Markes, of Marshall; four children: Donna Caton (Mike) of Marshall, Carolyn Reddin (Tom) of Columbia, Travis Markes (Angela Hisle) of Marshall and Steven Markes (Shelly) of Sweet Springs; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dora Richards of Sedalia.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Betty Heilman and Raydene Powell; and two brothers, Guy North and James ‘Jimmy’ North.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home.
