Billy Gene (Mise) Misenhelter passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at his home in Richmond, MO, surrounded by his loving family.
Billy was born in Polo, MO, to Vivian (Bowers) Misenhelter and Leonard Misenhelter; both preceded him in death.
Billy is survived by his wife, Susie Misenhelter. His children: Aaron (Lori) Misenhelter, Vincent (Mindy) Green, Kathy (Robert) Beaird; grandchildren: Lindsay (Canaan) Adams, Dakota Young, Mack Misenhelter, Brandon Hendricks, Caden Hendricks, Kendra Green, Dominic Beaird, Gage green, Abbie (Josh) Todd; great-grandchildren: Emmitt Adams, Quinley Adams, Olivia Todd, Scarlett Todd, and Bo Todd; and siblings: Nancy (Larry) Paul, Jim (Lana) Misenhelter, and Lorraine (John) Smith.
Billy graduated from Richmond High School in 1966 and went straight into the United States Air Force, where he served in munition maintenance; he spent 1 ½ years in Vietnam where he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal.
After the military, Billy spent 28 years in the insurance industry, later in banking, and a real estate broker. Billy served as president of Richmond Kiwanis Club in 1978. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a lifelong member to American Legion Post #237 and VFW Post #4398.
Billy loved to fish and hunt, but mostly spending time with his kids and grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the VFW Post #4398, American Legion Post #237, or Wounded Warrior Project. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville. Military honors provided by the United States Air Force.
