Marshall Shane Stewart, Sr., 47, of Higginsville, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2026, at his home. He was born Monday, October 30, 1978, in Warrensburg, Missouri, to Julie and Dennis Stewart. He was a 1997 graduate of Lafayette County C-1 in Higginsville and later earned an Associate’s degree in Mortuary Science in Kansas City, Kansas.
He married his best friend Lia (Price) Stewart on April 1, 2015. Together they purchased and diligently operated Stewart-Hoefer Funeral Home in Higginsville and Campbell-Cast Funeral Home in Holden, Missouri to the present. Marshall was an incredibly active member of his community where his loss will be felt by many. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Higginsville, Harvey J. Higgins Historical Society, Higginsville Lions Club and Higginsville Chamber of Commerce. Marshall was an outdoor recreational enthusiast often with his sons, which included camping, fishing, gardening, dendrology and mountain climbing. Marshall successfully summited the highest point in each of the 48 contiguous states alongside his father, which included Mt. Whitney the highest of those mountains when he was only 11 years old. He was also interested in traveling, coin and stamp collecting, his dogs and cats, board games, iced tea, male cardinal birds, and Bigfoot. Above all, Marshall adored being called Papa Marsh by his grandchildren, loved Jesus and cherished his family. Marshall will be remembered by many for his hardworking contribution to the community and his deep compassion for others.
Survivors include his parents, Dennis (Geri) Stewart and Julie Stewart of Higginsville; his wife, Lia Stewart of the home; three sons, Randen (Karlee) Brown of Liberty, MO, Shane (Maddison) Stewart of Higginsville, MO and Peyton (Alyssa) Dodson of Higginsville, MO; three daughters, Carina (Jorge) Baez of TX, Cameron (Jackson) Dodson of Higginsville, MO and Cymen (Anthony) Dodson; two stepbrothers, Paul (Marion) Scott of Tusayan, AZ, Dan (Jen) Scott of Olathe, KS; one sister, Aspen (Chris) Swett of Higginsville, MO; one stepsister, Alicia Scott of Blue Springs, MO; two grandsons, Zander Baez and Nathan Brown; two granddaughters, Haven Baez and Camilla “Millie” Seamster.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 1907 Peach St. Higginsville, Missouri 64037. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM with Rev. Mike Wakeman officiating. Burial will be in Higginsville City Cemetery. Casket bearers: Randen Brown, Peyton Dodson, Mitchell Hackley, Shane Stewart, Chris Swett, Damon White, Sevier Hoefer, Jeremy Lewis, Eddie Renno, Cypress Swett.
