Johnny Dawson Poindexter, age 89, of Carrollton, Mo, passed away on August 11, 2026, at Life Care Center of Carrollton.

Johnny was born to William Dawson and Mabel Pauline (Elliott) Poindexter on March 21, 1937, in Hale, Missouri. He was a 1955 graduate of Hale High School.

Johnny started working at F.M. Stamper and Banquet Foods, serving them for over 20 years, and retired to start a farming and cattle hauling career.

During his time at Stampers, Johnny met and married Daisy Mae (Smith) on March 29, 1958, (Daisy preceded him in death on Feb 11, 1995). To this union four children were born.

Johnny was hard working, stubborn, impatient, and always willing to help someone. He set forth a good work ethic for his children.

He enjoyed visiting with friends at the coffee shop and Lawn Mower Shop in his spare time.

Johnny was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan.

Johnny excelled at most things he attempted, including his favorite sports of trap shooting, bowling, and bird hunting; he received numerous awards.

Johnny and Daisy were part of establishing and running the Carroll County Gun Club.

Survivors include his children; Brenda (Rick) McCumber, Scott (René) Poindexter, Mark (Glenda) Poindexter, and Janet (Matt) Tonnar. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one brother Charles (Marie) Poindexter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife, and special companion of many years Izetta Goodale, 4 brothers and one sister.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Bittiker Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Powell Cemetery.
