Hazel Lee Burton Thompson, 86, of Slater, MO, died Sunday, February 22, 2026, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2026, at Concord Christian Church near Arrow Rock, with Pastor Ron Klingenberg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Concord Christian Church or Concord Cemetery in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born January 24, 1940, near Hardeman, MO, she was the daughter of the late George Gibson Burton and Dora Mae Willis Burton. Hazel lived in Saline County most of her life and was a 1958 graduate of Slater High School. On May 30, 1959, she married Clifford J. Thompson Jr. who preceded her in death on June 8, 2017. In addition to being a homemaker for her family, Hazel worked for several years at Slater Garment Factory. She was a member of Concord Christian Church.
Survivors include two children, Mark Thompson and Deborah Haygood, both of Slater; three grandsons: Vance Haygood of Lexington, Anthony Navarrete of Washington, D.C. and Jose Benitez (Vanessa Jacome) of Kansas City; two sisters, Helen Moody of Moberly and Betty L. Vogl of Hardeman; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
