Norma Jean Stark Flick, age 93 years, 11 months, and 19 days, of Carrollton, Mo., passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Norma Jean was born in Prairie Township on March 7, 1932, to Clarence Phillip and Edith Jeanette (Brickens) Stark. She graduated from Norborne High School in 1950.
Norma Jean and Ray Cowan Flick shared their first date on September 12, 1948, and were married on August 6, 1950, at Rock Hill Church of Christ. In 1953, Ray’s service in the United States Marine Corps took the couple to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. They returned home in 1954 to Ray’s childhood home-the Cowan Farm established in 1881 by his grandfather, Knox Cowan. There in rural Carroll County, they built their home and raised four children: Darrell, Dennis, Anita, & Mikel.
Throughout her life, Norma Jean was active in her community as a member of the Grand River Squares, Red Hat Society, Trotter Hustlers Extension Club, Bogard Willing Workers 4-H Club, and McCroskie Creek Baptist Church.
Norma Jean’s family was her pride and joy. She delighted in hosting family gatherings, playing pitch, and sharing her talent as an accomplished quilter and seamstress. Her love is stitched into the lives of her family through the handmade quilts she gifted each family member – treasured keepsakes that will be cherished for generations. She took great joy in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in activities and sports, and in providing a welcoming home filled with home-cooked meals and fresh baked goods. She cherished seeing younger generations enjoy board games and the family’s antique toys, creating new memories while honoring old traditions.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Yvetta May Stark; brother, Francis Stark; brothers-in-law, John Newton, Roy Flick, and Elmer Flick; sisters-in-law, Lois Flick, Betty Flick, and Velta Flick; and daughter-in-law, Linda Flick.
Norma Jean is survived by her loving husband, Ray, of 75 years; sons, Darrell (Belinda) Flick, Dennis (Kathleen) Flick, and Mikel (Donnell) Flick; daughter, Anita Reid; sister, Delois Newton; sister-in-law, Carrell Stark; brother-in-law, Jack Flick; grandchildren, Kevin, Christopher (Teneille), Brooks (Stephanie), Jennie (Ryan), Nancy (Nick), Mary Beth (Kyle), Derek (Dusti), Ryan, Kayla, Ross, Spencer (Mallory) and Cassie; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Carroll Memory Gardens in Carrollton, Mo. A luncheon will follow the graveside service at noon and be held at La Bella Hall, 5 South Main Street, Carrollton, MO 64633.
