In a unanimous opinion authored by Justice Neil Gorsuch, the Court ruled that the prosecution of a man named Ali Danial Hemani violated his Second Amendment rights. Hemani is a dual citizen of the United States and Pakistan who lives in Texas. He was accused of breaking a law that bars an unlawful drug user from possessing firearms. This is a felony that can result in a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. Hemani was a user of marijuana when the FBI found a handgun at his Texas home in 2022.
