Claud “Luther” Moore, 102, of Marshall, MO, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Memorial graveside services with military rites will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville with William W. Harlow officiating. Born January 28, 1924, in Houstonia, MO, he was the son of the late John Marshall Moore and Minnie R. Smith Moore. Luther was inducted into the United States Army Air Forces on February 6, 1943, at Ft. Leavenworth, KS, and served his country during World War II. He served as an aerial gunner across the European Theater for over 9 months. He was honorably discharged on October 18, 1945, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
On September 28, 1946, he married Mary B. Hartley and they shared nearly 70 years of marriage until her death on August 2, 2016. Luther and Mary made their home in Independence until Luther retired from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. They returned to Marshall and attended First Christian Church.
Luther was a dedicated husband and father who always made time for his family.
He provided a great example of what love and perseverance are as he cared for his wife for years after her stroke. He had a quiet spirit, quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He was very independent and had a “do-it-myself” attitude. In addition to teaching himself to play guitar, he also built several pieces of furniture. He enjoyed watching the Chiefs and snacking on Hershey’s chocolate candy. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by four children: C.L. Moore (Jean) of Shell Knob, Debbie Linquist (Jerry) of Kearney, David Moore of Blue Springs, and Patty Coats (David) of Independence; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, June Sargent of Texas and Jane Hartley of Marshall; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
In addition to his parents and wife, Luther was preceded in death by a grandson and great-grandson; two brothers, Elwood Moore and Marshall Dean Moore; and one sister, Lurlene Aulgur.
The family thanks the staff of The Living Center for their kindness, care, and compassion shown the last 15 months when Luther resided there.
