Nellie Pauline Powell, 91, of Salisbury, MO, died Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Glasgow Gardens. Nellie was born January 17, 2026 in Independence, MO the daughter of Tim J. and Cecil (Bohannan) Dobbins. She married Vernon S. Powell on March 20, 1953 in North Kansas City, MO, and he preceded her in death on November 21, 2011.
Nellie was a graduate of North Kansas City High School, Class of 1953. She worked as an inspector for Western Electric in Lee’s Summit for 5 years, Co-owner of Powell’s Restaurant in Salisbury for 10 years, worked for IGA in Salisbury, Quality Products in Glasgow, MO. She was baptized at the Keytesville Baptist Church and attended Salisbury Baptist Church. She loved to play cards and babysit the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nellie is survived by her son Tab Powell (Janette Wieberg) of Macon, MO, daughter Valorie (James ) Hurt of Salisbury, MO, brother Tim (Eun) Dobbins of Liberty, MO, sister Patty Rodriques of South Houston, TX, grandchildren Jason (Mindy) Hurt, Elizabeth (Brandon) Sharp, Sara (James) Lange, Layton Powell (Craig), great grandchildren Zoey Hurt, Hayden Hurt, Riley Hurt, Teagan Hurt, sister-in-law/brother-in-law Maurice and Mary Biere, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon, parents, brothers John, Paul, Jonas, Ralph Dobbins, sisters Cecil Wooten, Pearl Burr, Margaret Capell, and infant Ruby Dobbins, and grandson Blayne Hurt.

Graveside services are Friday, July 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO. Memorials may be made to the Asbury Cemetery.
