Luke 19:12-13 “Therefore He said: A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’”
Jesus taught the parable before us to drive home a point. While we remain here, on earth, we are to engage in business, but not commerce as the world understands it—far from it—eternity was on His mind.
In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), we learn that God gives believers various giftings, but here, we read that each servant received the same measure of money to invest. That tells us God deposits an equal responsibility into each of our hands—to make use of the opportunities He provides to further the gospel.
There is no doubt that life is hectic and we’re all busy, but are those activities profitable for God’s kingdom? Ask yourself, “Are my life goals and pursuits worthy of being called God’s work? Do my words and actions convey the love, grace, and mercy of God in Christ Jesus?”
When the nobleman entrusted his servants with equal portions of his money, he trusted in their wise use of it. Likewise, we are to make the best possible use of God’s eternal truths with the same intentionality as a prudent merchant. It matters not whether you are raising children or presiding over a multinational corporation—be assured that your efforts for the Lord will be rewarded.
One day soon, we will be with Jesus in heaven. Until then, may we be found faithful and excited to meet Him because we’ve been busy about His work.
