Marvin Douglas McKinney, 77, of Waverly, Mo., died Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Life Care Center in Carrollton, Mo., after a short illness.
Marvin was born at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Mo., to Charles Raymond and Laura Melvina Hatfield McKinney on Aug. 13, 1949. He attended and graduated from Santa Fe High School in Grand Pass, Mo., in 1967. He was baptized at the Waverly Christian Church.
Marvin married Lori Schmidt on Oct. 19, 1993, in Las Vegas, NV and just celebrated 33 happy years together. They shared a son, Stacy of Columbia, Mo. Marvin and Stacy shared a mutual love for sports, especially baseball. Marvin thoroughly enjoyed watching Stacy play baseball throughout the years and loved spending time with him watching their favorite team – the Royals. Marvin and Stacy connected through football too – drafting their fantasy football teams together each year. Marvin loved being a part of Stacy’s life, watching him grow and succeed in life and proud of the man he is today.
Marvin was also a proud uncle who loved watching his nephew, Drew, and niece, Ava, grow up. Whether he was cheering them on, making them laugh, or simply spending time together he enjoyed it all. Above all he was a family man who cherished spending time with the people he loved.
Marvin was in numerous leagues including softball, bowling and golf. Marvin enjoyed taking golf trips with his golf buddies to other states playing courses that challenged his skills. He played on a bowling team for many years and loved the friendships he built along the way.
In Marvin’s early work life, he worked at International Shoe Factory and Wilson’s Foods in Marshall. He later worked for Missouri Valley Community Action Agency in the Weatherization Department for over 25 years. After retiring, he worked part-time for the City of Waverly Water Department for a short period. You could always find Marvin mowing or working in the yard or playing with his dog, Sadie. In recent years, Marvin enjoyed the quiet days at home with Lori, watching their favorite shows and going out to eat.
Survivors include his wife Lori McKinney of the home and his son Stacy McKinney (Mary) of Columbia, Mo.; one brother, Charles McKinney (Eleanor) of Waverly, Mo.; as well as a nephew and several nieces.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, June and Jr. Schmidt; and sister-in-law, Debra Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2026, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall with William W. Harlow officiating. Burial will follow in the Buck-Corder-Cary Addition of the Waverly Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Marvin would be honored for memorials to be made to the Waverly Christian Church, St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital or family choice.
