Charlie Lock, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away leaving behind a legacy of hard work, service, and deep devotion to his family.
Charlie was born on July 18, 1948, in Waverly, Missouri, the fifth of eleven children. Raised in a large, close-knit family, he developed an early sense of responsibility and loyalty that stayed with him throughout his life. A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, he spent many years sharing his faith with his family. He also worked long days alongside his brothers, cousins, and uncles at the Carrollton Livestock Auction-an experience that helped shape his strong work ethic and grounded nature.
He had a lifelong love of sports, both as a player and a fan. In his youth, he played baseball and football, and that competitive spirit never left him. In later years, he gave back by coaching, taking pride in mentoring young athletes and sharing his knowledge of the game. Known by many as “Boxcar,” he carried a steady presence and larger-than-life personality that left a lasting impression. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1966 and went on to attend Kansas State University, where he earned a degree in Business.
His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open several ventures with close friends, including The In-Between, Pappy’s, and Grand Pappy’s-early endeavors that reflected both his drive and his enjoyment of building something alongside others. He later worked with his brothers to found and operate Lock Warehouse and Lock Truck Line, helping grow the businesses through vision, determination, and hard work. His coworkers and employees often became lifelong friends, a testament to the way he connected with people both professionally and personally. He was also deeply committed to his community, contributing his time and leadership to organizations such as Opportunity Enterprises, Inc., Spring Manor Group Home, Five Acres Group Home and serving on the Chamber Board, Municipal Utilities Board, Carrollton Country Club Board, and the Hospital Board.
He found great joy in returning to Kansas State University for games, often reconnecting with his college friends and reliving cherished memories. These moments reflected his enduring appreciation for friendship and tradition.
Above all, he was a devoted family man. On Friday nights, he could usually be found surrounded by loved ones at a large table at the Country Club, watching with a smile as his children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren made a ruckus on the dance floor. His family was his greatest joy, and he leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, guidance, and unwavering support.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Albert Paul and Clara Augusta “Dolly” Lock, brothers Joe Lock and Bob Lock.
He is survived by his daughters Kelsey (Chris) Ehmke, and Charley Lock, stepsons Chris (Ellie) Stuver and Brent Stuver, grandchildren; Nikolas (Amelia) Stuver, Carter (Mia) Stuver, Josie Stuver, Lucy Ehmke, Mae Ehmke, great-granddaughter Jennifer Jayne Stuver.
Also surviving are siblings Anne Duderstadt, John (Jan) Lock, Tim (Iva Jean) Lock, Shirley (Paul) Boyd, Beverly (Rod) Richardson, Susie Lock, Jeff (Tracy) Lock, Carolyn (Bill) Dent and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions in Charlie’s memory are asked to “Family Choice.” They may be left at or mailed to Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Carrollton, 2 E. Benton St., Carrollton, MO 64633.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
